Our History

Christian Wheeler Engineering was founded in September 1998 by three friends and colleagues who had worked together for decades. With over 50 years of combined experience, Charles “Chris” Christian, Mike Wheeler, and Curtis Burdett created a family-oriented firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, materials engineering and testing, laboratory testing, special inspection, and building envelope consulting services. Rather than growing a firm that outside investors and accountants led, our founders decided to develop a company that was run and managed by design professionals who would be relied upon to provide the technical consulting services required by our clients and local industry.

Over the decades, Chris and Curtis have retired and Mike maintains an expert and leadership role in the firm, allowing for a new generation of engineers and geologists to take the helm. In 2019, Shawn Caya (G.E.), Charlie Carter (R.C.E),Tayler Petersen (R.C.E.), Dave Russell (C.E.G.), and Troy Wilson (C.E.G.) became owners and new leaders of the company. The new generation of CWE leadership strives to build upon the solid reputation, diverse client base, and strong foundation laid by the company founders. We have comfortably maintained and grown our staff roster over the decades while maintaining our SBE accreditation.
